In this way Passiflora is effective in both prevention and treatment of seizures, especially when stress is a precipitating factor, as is often the case with seizures.

  • Scuttelaria laterifolia (Skullcap) is a well-known calmative and antispasmodic herb and will help to reduce over-stimulation that can lead to seizure occurrence. It is also helpful in lowering fever and regulating blood pressure, two further contributing precipitants of seizures in pets.

  • Hyoscyamus (30C) is a homeopathic remedy valuable in the acute and long-term treatment of all seizures and tic disorders.

  • Belladonna (30C) is also a homeopathic remedy well-known for its usefulness in seizure control, especially those seizures associated with high fever.

  • Use Immunity and Liver Support capsules to boost your pet’s immune functioning and resistance against diseases and infection.

  • Regular exercise helps to keep your pet healthy and fit.

  • Check for the presence of intestinal parasites such as tapeworm.

  • Treat intestinal worms with our Parasite Dr.

  • Avoid exposure to toxins, chemicals and food additives as much as possible

14. What should I do if my pet has a seizure?

If your pet has a seizure it can be a frightening experience but the most important thing for you to do is to stay calm. Move your pet away from stairs or hard objects like furniture to decrease the chance of him hurting himself. It is also a good idea to wrap blankets or place pillows around your pet. Speak to your pet in a quiet and calming voice while doing this. Remove any other pets you have from the immediate area. Minimize stimulation in the immediate environment by dimming bright lights, turning loud music off and gently comforting your pet with words and by stroking his side- be wary of the face and limbs as you risk being bitten or scratched.

Try to take a mental note of details that will be useful to your pet’s health care provider including time of day, length of seizure, apparent state of consciousness and any loss of continence (urine or feces). Any possible trigger-factors like loud noises, unusual food eaten or excessive playing and excitement are also relevant.

After the seizure your pet will probably seem drowsy and a bit “out of it” for a few hours. He may not seem himself and may be slow to respond. Allow your pet to rest undisturbed afterwards as this will help him to recover from the seizure.
