Controlled fungal levels through immune system support
Just like humans, animals need their immune systems to function properly to keep bacterial and fungal levels on the body in the correct balance. Believe it or not, there are good bacteria and good fungi! (Think of how healthy mushrooms are – and they are a fungus!) The body is a delicate system always striving to maintain balance – your pet’s bodies are no different!
The natural way
There is a lot that you can do for your pet to help support fungal levels within normal range. Make sure you brush your pet regularly, to remove dead skin cells and damaged hair, but make sure you clean the brush each time you brush them. Clean your combs or brushes, blades, or scissors after you finish grooming your pet. Also, if you wash your pet – remember to dry your pet properly, making sure there are no hidden warm, moist crevices. A healthy diet and adequate exercise will also support the immune system of your animal.

Melaleuca alternifolia is also known as Tea Tree Oil and is widely used to soothe skin and promote gentle healing. This oil is gentle enough for delicate areas of the body, yet still provides support for the dermis and coat.
-
Azadirachta indica (Neem) is highly prized for making furniture, as the wood is worm-resistant! For the same reason, it is a highly prized traditional Ayurvedic medicine. One study investigated this herb for its ability to support healthy skin. (Charles V; Charles SX “The use and efficacy of Azadirachta indica ADR ('Neem') and Curcuma longa ('Turmeric') in scabies”. A pilot study. Trop Geogr Med (Netherlands) Jan 1992, 44 (1-2) p178-81).
-
Calendula officinalis (Marigold) is used to promote overall skin health and support the body’s ability to regenerate damaged skin cells naturally. (Klouchek-Popova E, Popov A, Pavlova N, Krŭsteva S. “Influence of the physiological regeneration and epithelialization using fractions isolated from Calendula officinalis”. Acta Physiol Pharmacol Bulg. 1982;8(4):63-7.PMID: 7185264).
-
Hamamelis virginianum (Witchhazel) has long been used by Native Americans to support healing. Witchhazel has been investigated clinically on numerous occasions for its ability to promote and support skin health. (Swoboda M, Meurer J. “Treatment of atopic dermatitis with hamamelis ointment”. Br J Phytother. 1991;2:128–132). (Korting HC, Schafer-Korting M, Klovekorn W, et al. “Comparative efficacy of hamamelis distallate and hydrocortisone cream in atopic eczema”. Eur J Clin Pharmacol. 1995;48:461–465). (Korting HC, Schafer-Korting M, Hart H, et al. “Anti-inflammatory activity of hamamelis distillate applied topically to the skin”. Eur J Clin Pharmacol. 1993;44:315–8).
